Maine Office of Tourism Highlights Soundscapes of Maine’s Woods and Waters in New Partnership with Calm
July 9, 2026
AUGUSTA, MAINE – The Maine Office of Tourism has partnered with Calm, the mental health company with the #1 app to help you sleep more, stress less and live mindfully, to create a suite of immersive experiences showcasing the restorative power of Maine’s woods and waters. Amid the enduring popularity of wellness-oriented travel, this partnership is designed to inspire Calm users to see Maine as a space to reflect, rejuvenate, and reconnect with themselves and loved ones.
Titled “Forged by Nature: The Mindful Magic of Maine”, the collection of meditations, soundscapes, a Sleep Story, and a Breathe Bubble transport users to pine-scented trails, tranquil lakes, and majestic harbors. A narrated Sleep Story guides listeners through the Fields Pond Audubon Center in Holden, Maine; a two-part meditation series visualizes scenes in the North Maine Woods and on the shores of Lubec along Maine’s Bold Coast. Two soundscapes immerse listeners in Katahdin Woods and Waters and in a harbor along Maine’s midcoast, and a Breathe Bubble focuses users’ attention on a canoe trip in Baxter State Park.
“In Maine, nature is not simply a backdrop – it is a core element of our daily life and our sense of self. When visitors come to Maine, they too feel a deep emotional and physical connection with our landscape, and that brings a sense of renewal,” explains Carolann Ouellette, Director of the Maine Office of Tourism. “Our partnership with Calm is the perfect opportunity to share how Maine’s landscape invites reflection and reconnection, and we hope users can visualize themselves visiting these cherished places.”
In light of national travel trends shifting toward restorative experiences, the Maine Office of Tourism began asking visitors about their trip motivations in the fall of 2025. More than 50% of fall visitors shared that their top motivator for visiting Maine was for escape, relaxation, and a chance to take a break from everyday stress. As Maine looks to connect with mindful travelers, the Office of Tourism’s partnership with Calm is an important storytelling channel to celebrate Maine as a place to pause.
“Millions of people turn to Calm to decompress, using our nature sounds to escape into the beauty of the outdoors, even right from home,” said Fergal Walker, VP of Partnerships at Calm. “Partnering with the Maine Office of Tourism allows us to expand this library and help even more people find calm through the serene sounds and landscapes Maine has to offer.”
