Maine’s 2026 Fall Foliage Season Goes Out with a Bang
AUGUSTA, Maine – As we wrap up this season’s foliage reports, we would like to thank you for sharing your autumn adventures through emails and comments on the Maine Foliage Facebook page. Your photos, favorite views and stories helped us celebrate fall in every corner of Maine.
“From the rocky coast to the deep woods of the north, Maine put on quite a show! While the leaves may be letting go as Maine bids adieu to another spectacular fall foliage season, there is still plenty of fall left. Who knows, you might even catch a little “snowliage” in northern Maine (when a dusting of snow meets the last of the fall foliage),” said Gale Ross, Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry (DACF) fall foliage spokesperson.

One Last Colorful Hurrah
This may be our final report of the season, but autumn has more in store. From glowing jack-o’-lanterns and coastal harvest festivals to scenic drives and seaside walks, October offers plenty of reasons to get outside and savor the season.
- A little lobster, a lot of flavor. Portland’s Harvest on the Harbor, October 16-17, celebrates Maine’s culinary bounty with a Lobster Chef of the Year competition and oyster tastings featuring the best of Maine’s working waterfront.
- Let there be pumpkin light. Thousands of glowing jack-o’-lanterns illuminate Freeport during the Camp Sunshine Pumpkin Festival, October 16-18, with pumpkin carving, live music, family activities and a festive atmosphere, all supporting a great cause.
- Take a ride on the pumpkin express. Climb aboard a vintage trolley at the Seashore Trolley Museum in Kennebunkport, October 16-18, for a trip to the pumpkin patch, followed by pumpkin decorating and family-friendly fall activities.
- Fall fun with a side of sea breeze. The York Harvestfest & Kidsfest takes over Short Sands Beach on October 17 with local makers, live music, seasonal food and family activities, all steps from the ocean.
- Fall colors from a bird’s-eye perspective. Ride the chairlift at the Camden Snow Bowl on October 18 for a panoramic view of autumn color stretching from peaks to Penobscot Bay.
- Take the long way to the edge of Maine. Follow the Bold Coast National Scenic Byway through Downeast Maine, where rugged cliffs, blueberry barrens and quiet fishing villages offer a different perspective on fall. Make time for the dramatic coastal trails at Quoddy Head State Park or a stop in picturesque Lubec.
More Fall Fun Through October
The season isn’t over yet! Keep the autumn adventures going with OgunquitFest October 23-25, featuring a costume parade for dogs and a High Heel Dash. For a final dose of Halloween spirit, look for spooky celebrations across Maine on October 31.
