Fall Colors Still Present Along the Immediate Coast

October 17, 2018 — Moderate to high leaf drop is also reported throughout Maine.

“While there is plenty of color abound and the landscapes are still displaying oranges, reds and yellows, the recent wind storm has knocked down most of the leaves on trees that were nearing peak conditions. If you’re still up for a drive, downeast, midcoast and southern Maine are where you’ll find the most color. The oranges and golds are just starting to pop in the hearty oak trees along the coast,” according to Gale Ross, Maine’s fall foliage spokesperson.

For foodies, Portland’s annual food and spirits festival, Harvest on the Harbor, will continue through Sunday. Events include the Maine Lobster Chef of the Year competition, On the Rocks Happy Hour, a Bloody Mary and Pig Roast Brunch, Oysterfest and more.

Enjoy traditional fall activities for the whole family at the annual OgunquitFest October 19-21. On Friday, kick off the weekend with some pre-Halloween fun by joining in the downtown Trick or Treat with the kids. Continue your fall foliage touring at Bradbury Mountain State Park in Pownal, just outside of Freeport. Hike to the top of Bradbury Mountain with a picnic lunch for picturesque views of the remaining foliage. Easy, moderate and more-advanced trails are available. After you leaf peep by land, take the short 20-minute drive to Portland for a cruise or kayak tour through Casco Bay for foliage views from the water. Or, continue driving south toward the Maine beaches region or north up to the midcoast region for more coastal foliage just now peaking in color.
