October 15, 2025 – The Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry (DACF) has released its final foliage report for the season, indicating peak and past-peak conditions throughout most of Maine. As the weekend approaches, central and coastal areas are nearing peak color, with leaf drop now ranging from 70–100 percent.
“This is Maine’s weekend,” said Gale Ross, Maine’s fall foliage spokesperson “With the holiday traffic behind us, it’s the perfect time to take a leisurely scenic drive, hike or bike ride and enjoy the colors with fewer crowds. Even ‘past peak’ remains beautifully colorful and photo-worthy. As ‘Vacationland’ prepares to put the trees to bed and we wrap up another fall foliage season, let’s thank all of the leaf lovers and everyone who celebrates Maine in the fall. There is still time to enjoy fall-inspired events and activities this upcoming weekend.” .
The final weeks of fall bring plenty of ways to explore Maine’s colors and communities:

Maine’s signature food and drink festival invites everyone to experience the state’s culinary talent with opportunities to taste Maine Lobster Chef of the Year competition dishes, sip spirits from Maine Distillers Guild, as well as Maine wines and beers, and slurp oysters from over 30 growers from up and down the coast. . - Scenic road trip idea – Maine’s coastal byways
For a final foliage road trip, explore Maine’s stunning coastal routes — the Schoodic National Scenic Byway, Bold Coast National Scenic Byway, and Acadia All-American Road. Each offers a different take on Maine’s maritime beauty, from the working harbors and quiet villages of the Schoodic Peninsula to the dramatic ocean cliffs of the Bold Coast and the sweeping vistas of Acadia National Park. With fewer crowds and lingering color, these drives capture the best of coastal Maine in late October.

- Soak up spooky charm – Many seaside towns celebrate with Halloween parades, haunted walks, and harvest markets.
- Dress in layers – Coastal breezes can be brisk; pack for changing temperatures throughout the day.
- End on a high note – Capture your final foliage photos at sunset for warm, golden light over the water.
